The Vision
  • Sherry Key, former Career-Technical Director, was the visionary. She wrote the grant that produced the seed money for the Academy of Business and Finance as well as other academies.

5
Vision
  • The Business and Finance Academy initiative grew out of a number of trips on a Greyhound bus taken by secondary and post-secondary educators, business leaders, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, and others interested in economic and workforce development. This team of individuals took the approach, 'What can we do to provide unique opportunities for students?'“
6
Vision
  • School leaders looked at where we wanted to be in five years. We had a lot of good things going for us
    • the Center for Technology
    • good support from the community
      • Chamber of Commerce

7
Vision
  • The concept was to cross our traditional 'territorial boundaries' and do what was best for the students of Pike County by bringing the two school systems (Pike County and Troy City) together.

8
Vision
  • Being located in a rural area and having small student populations, it was evident that individual schools could not support multiple academies. Therefore, each school was assigned an academy that best suited the school, the primary business partner, and the local teachers.
    • The Culinary Arts Academy is based at Charles Henderson High School.
    • The Global Studies Academy is based at Troy University and the Troy-Pike Center for Technology.
    • The Agriculture Academy is scheduled to open next year at Goshen High School
    • The Academy of Business and Finance at Pike County High School.
