Cohort Group:

Students meet in the cohort group on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Troy-Pike Center for Technology.  Study time is provided on an individual bases or in groups.  The remaining time is spent in enrichment activities which follow monthly themes.  Some of these include Hands-On Art, Communication, Fitness, History, Careers, Photography and Fine Arts.  Each month the students also participate in a community service activity in an effort to teach the students to give back to the community.  Some of these include Reach Out and Read, Radio Reader for the Blind, and Hospice assistance.  The cohort is an integral part of the Global Studies Academy.  The atmosphere is relaxed and the group quickly becomes a “family” as they support and help one another.  Click here to meet the students.

Admission Criteria:

  1. Application completed by May 15th of the 10th grade year
  2. ACT – 20  (with a 20 in English)
  3. GPA 3.0
  4. 3 Written Recommendations
  5. Required parent/student orientation
  6. TSU Admission

 

The Global Studies Academy allows students to earn both college and high school credit through dual enrollment agreements between Troy Board of Education, the Pike County Board of Education and Troy State University.  Instruction for the morning sessions is on the campus of Troy State (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) and at the Troy-Pike Center for Technology (Tuesday and Thursday).  Upon completion of morning sessions, students return to their home high schools for afternoon classes.  The program is a two-year commitment for 11th and 12th graders who qualify.





Philosophy:                   It is the belief of the Troy City and Pike County School Systems that all students should be challenged to reach their highest individual academic achievement and that every student should be given the skills necessary to become contributing members of society.

 

Mission:                        The Global Studies Academy will prepare high schools to compete in the workforce of the 21st Century and prepare them to enter the nation’s best colleges and universities.

 

Vision:                          The Academy for Global Studies will graduate 21st Century Citizens who are: value oriented, competent in communication and problem solving skills, skillful in critical and analytical thinking, aware of their interdependence in a global and multi-cultural society, technologically literate, and prepared academically to meet the challenges of work or post-secondary education.

 

Pre-Requisite Courses:

l Algebra I, Geometry

l Honor’s English 9, Honor’s English 10

l Physical Science, Honor’s Biology

l World History, U. S. History 10

l Foreign Language (Minimum 1 unit)

 

Academy Goals:

9.                 Provide incentives for continuing education beyond high school.
